A Patriarchal Blessing by Jacob g. Bigler on the head of Clarissa Amanda Miller Hoyt daughter of Josiah and Amanda Morgan Miller born Oct 8th 1829 at Clarendon Orleans Co. New York.

Sister Clarissa I lay my hands upon your head to bestow upon you a Patriarchal Blessing and I pray the Lord that he will bless me with his spirit that I may be led to say such things that may be for your comfort and encouragement in you widowhood. You are entitled to the blessings of the Lord for your faithfulness in the past, and his blessings will be with you in the future, for you have merited them. The Holy Spirit, the comforter shall continue to be with you and as you grow in years your way shall be brighter, the veil between you and the departed ones shall be so thin that you shall feel their influence, that the time shall be pleasant while you are waiting and preparing yourself to enjoy the society of the spirit world. Let no the cares of life disturb your peace, nor the doings of the unfaithful annoy you, for all shall be well with you and yours. Look well to your children and encourage them in well doing. Thy sins are forgiven thee therefore rejoice in the Lord and keep his commandments and all shall be well with you; and when you shall lay down this mortal tabernacle you may be prepared to meet with your father, mother, and husband and rejoice together that you have been thus led to overcome and inherit glory and eternal joy together. Thou art of the blood of Israel through the lineage of Ephraim, which entitles you to these blessings. Your joy shall increase and your children will bless you as you have been a blessing to them in their youthful days so shall they bless you in your declining years. All that you have passed through or may pass through hereafter becomes as naught compared with the glory and exaltation that you will receive through obedience to the commandments of God. I seal these blessings upon you with every other blessing the Lord has in store for the faithful, to come forth in the morning of the first resurrection to inherit glory, immortality and eternal life in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
